“They’ve got (Name)?!” Hiccup had so many awful scenarios running through his head that he barley noticed the “Yep” coming from his left side.  But he did, and when he glanced over his eyes widened.

“It’s tragic.” Ruffnut sighed, and then brightened. “But she’s a strong girl, and if she can throw something like that at Dagur and live, then we’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“Ruff!?” Hiccup stared at the girl, then Barf and Belch and then looked around for her male counterpart. “Where’s Tuff!?”

The girls face took on a solemn look. “He…didn’t make it.”

“…WHAT?!”

“Just kidding!” Ruff’s face brightened again. “He’s hiding in that tree he hollowed out behind you.”

“Hi Hiccup.” Tuff’s voice answered through the tree. “Its great in here! Well, except for the tree ants…but then again…”

Hiccup blinked at the tree, and then turned back to Ruff. “What are you two doing here?”

“We decided to follow to Skrill.” Ruff answered, and then fearing she was going to get a lecture, flinched. “Was…that okay?”

“Okay?” Hiccup smiled. “That was brilliant!”

“So you mean we did something right?” Tuff asked. “I mean, of course we did something right.”

Hiccup and Ruff stared at the tree, before looking back at the arena.

You were still struggling in Dagur’s hold, until he finally pulled you right up against your side, rendering you immobile.  He shot you a glare, and if looks could kill, you would be 6 feet under.

But, so would he.

The both of you held different expressions as the tell tail shriek of the Skrill echoed throughout the stone and metal building. Dagur grinned as the dragon was dragged out of the shadows by Outcasts, while you looked horrified as it thrashed and shrieked.

The Skrill calmed down slightly when it saw you, but when it saw your current position, its rage simply grew.  The Outcasts were struggling to hold it, and as Dagur drew nearer, it’s struggling increased.

“My my, you are a beauty, aren’t you?” He reached out his hand to place it on the dragons muzzle; drawing it back a second later as it’s sharp teeth missed it by mere centimeters. “You’re a feisty one too.”

You smiled as Dagur backed away from the Skrill, leaving it to buck once again. Well, at least the maniac wouldn’t hurt it. “Though I must say, keeping the Skrill out in the open like this? It’s stupid.”

“How is it stupid?” On of the Outcasts looked at Dagur confused.

You answered the question, just to spite the deranged chief holding onto you. “It draws its power from lighting, and no matter how far away from the sky it is, the lightning will answer it’s call.”

“You seem to know a lot about the Skrill.” Dagur commented, sidestepping the bolt of lightning the Skrill fired, after just proving your point.

“Well, if I’m going to train it,” You growled, glaring at him. “Then I need to know about it.”

Dagur’s eye twitched, and he gritted his teeth.  He seemed like he was tying to be patient with you. “You’re not going to train it, because it’s my dragon.”

“That dragon isn’t yours!” You shouted. “And it will never be yours!”

Silence rang out in the arena, and when Dagur spoke, you could barley hear him. “Put the dragon in a cage.” His eyes were narrowed to a dangerous level. You yourself held that gaze, even when Dagur lifted you off the ground by the collar of your shirt. “That Dragon will be mine (Name). But if you think you can train it, then by all means, go right ahead.”

He then threw you into the open cage. You landed with a painful thump on the stone floor, and Dagur’s laughter filled your head, along with the Skrill’s roar as everyone left the arena.

Dagur had left you alone with an angry Skrill that wasn’t so trusting with you as before, in a cage that wasn’t even big enough for the dragon.

oOo

“Damn.” Hiccup let the telescope he was holding drop to the ground, and Ruff watched him as what little composer he had left vanished.  “Damn it, damn it, damn it!”

“Hiccup?” Ruff watched uncertainly as Hiccup slammed his fist against the rock, ignoring Toothless as the Night Fury went to comfort him.

Thoughts were racing through Hiccup’s head.  ‘This is my fault. All my fault. If I just told her no, if I made her stay, she wouldn’t-‘  He then shook his head, trying to clear away the thoughts before mumbling “I have to get down their.”

“Huh?” Both twins asked at the same time.

“Tuff!” Hiccup rounded on the tree. “I need you to go down there, and figure out Dagur’s plan.”

“Okay, but, why can’t you do it?” Tuff asked. “And what about (Name)?”

“Because they know me. I wouldn’t be able to get even 10 feet in before they caught me.” Hiccup gritted his teeth. “And (Name) will just have to hold on. It’s too dangerous to get her.”

Ruff and Tuff may be stupid, but even they couldn’t miss how torn up Hiccup was about this. They knew how much the Viking liked you, and they also knew he would be in utter agony while he waited for Tuff.

“Alright.” Tuff stepped out of the tree, brushing tiny moving black dots off of him. “I’ll go right now.”

“Thank you.”  Hiccup said quietly.

oOo

You were pressed up against the back of the cage as the Skrill advanced on you. Its teeth were bared in a snarl, and in a last ditch effort you threw your hand up in front of your face, squeezing your eyes shut and shouting a rather stupid command. “Wait!”

The dragon stopped.

So, apparently you command wasn’t all that stupid.

“So um, we’ve already had this conservation before, but we’ll have it again.” You said, opening one eye. “Look, it’s been a stressful day for everyone, and I can only imagine how it must be for you, what with me jumping on your back and all-“

The dragon snarled, and you flinched. You briefly wondered what happened to the dragon that sorta liked you a second ago, before continuing on.

“I’m sorry! But it was the only way I could help you!” The Skrill’s face relaxed, it’s expression taking on a more curious one. “I wanted to help you then, and I want to help you now. I promise I wont hurt you.”

Both of your eyes were open now, and staring right into the golden ones of the Skrill. “But you have to trust me.”

You didn’t know how long the two of you stayed like that. It could have been seconds or days, but when the Skrill slowly and with jerky movements pressed its muzzle into your hands, those brilliant eyes closed, you felt such a strong bond form, and you couldn’t help but tear up.

“See?” You said quietly, running your hands down the dragon’s neck. “I told you I wouldn’t hurt you.”

The Skrill hummed, opening its eyes to look at you again. “I suppose you want a name, huh boy?” The dragon hummed a little louder, and you took that as a yes. “I’ve never really been that good with names though.”

The Skrill let out a snort. You shook your head, and then smiled. “How about Lyn?”

The dragon gave you a curious look, as if asking, why Lyn?

“It means, lightning.” You said. “I know it’s not all that original, but, as I’ve said, I’m not very good with names.” The dragon stared at you for a little while longer, before curling up and resting it’s head on your lap. “So, Lyn it is.”

Lyn hummed again, and you began to stroke its head before letting out a sigh. “Now all we have to do is wait for our valiant night Hiccup to show up, riding his noble steed Toothless.”

Both you and Lyn looked up as voices drifted into the arena. Dagur and Alvin were in a room attached to the building, and when you herd Dagur asking someone’s name, you paled,

“I’m Buffnut the berserker.”

“You’re one of mine?” Dagur asked, sounded very confused.

“…I guess Tuff will do too.” You grumbled. “If he doesn’t die first.”
Yay! Bonding time!

Our poor little Hiccup is going to have a heart attack soon if this keeps up. Poor Hiccup. I gave up on dragon names, so I went to google translate, translated lightning into Norwegian, and went with that.
